HaloKlear is known for creating reliable, effective and safe solutions for treating all types of sediment control problems. Our recently developed HaloKlear biopolymer products, DBP 2100™ & LBP-2101™, represent a scientific breakthrough utilizing natural polymers. They are eco-friendly and incredibly effective when used in conjunction with HaloKlear GelFloc™ or HaloKlear LiquiFloc™. Our new biopolymer system is so efficient at producing the desired results our patent is now pending with the U.S. Government.
Washington State clean water regulations are some of the most stringent in North America. HaloKlear LiquiFloc is one of a few products Washington State has approved for general use in their fragile salmon and other aquatic fresh & salt-water habitats. So imagine how it will perform for you. Whether you are using an active, semi-passive or passive system the choice should be clear. HaloKlear is also the only company with a patent pending residual biopolymer test kit that allows you to quickly and easily determine the correct dosage is used in the field. It can improve your testing accuracy by 25%. All our products have been created to work in the toughest water conditions. This helps you stay in compliance and keep working.
HaloKlear products achieve significant results in active, semi-passive and passive systems in the U.S. and Canada. The following diagrams show how HaloKlear products can be incorporated into the three most common water treatment models.
ACTIVE TREATMENT MODELS
- Typical results: <10-20 NTU average
- System designs for very high quality results or in conjunction with secondary remediation of contaminates
- Our biopolymers work effectively with reusable medias without fouling the media
- The primary method for treatment if the results must be guaranteed
SEMI-PASSIVE MODELS
- Typical results: 20-50-NTU average
- May involve contaminate removal
- Uses course filtration and / or settling to improve cost effectiveness
- May be used in conjunction with passive models
PASSIVE TREATMENT MODELS
- Use of our new biopolymers deliver consistent results
- Typical results likely are: 50-250-NTU average
- Minimize your water storage needs
- Maximize your flow rates
- Uses natural filtration and settling to reduce costs
- A cost effective model for meeting the EPA & ELG requirements

APPLICATIONS & EMERGING APPLICATIONS
HaloKlear products can be used for the treatment of stormwater, wastewater (industrial and facilities applications) and construction site runoff. This can be accomplished through active and passive treatments.
Applications:
Drinking Water, Waste Water and Industrial Water
Industrial Re-Use
Frac Water
Dredging
Mining and Tunneling
Agricultural
Drinking Water, Waste Water and Industrial Water
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) permits chitosan use in drinking water, wastewater and industrial water. The unique enhanced capability of chitosan, when charged with chlorine or bromine, is one of the characteristics that make this natural polymer so appealing for use in these applications. HaloSource’s experience in the advanced use of chitosan with halogens is unmatched. N-halo chitosan created when using HaloKlear chitosan and chlorine or bromine can increase the removal capabilities of oily compounds exponentially. Industrial Re-Use
Certain types of food process industries, such as beer, wine and dairy, discharge food solids into their waste streams. Some of those food solids could be recycled into animal feed if they were removed by a nontoxic flocculant. HaloKlear can be applied to this purpose because chitosan is accepted in animal feeds as outlined by the Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO). By safely floccing out the food solids in their waste streams, HaloKlear has the capability to help these industries generate less waste.
Frac Water
Hydraulic fracturing is a half-century-old technology used in oil and natural gas production. The technique allows oil or natural gas to move more freely from the rock pores in which it is trapped to a producing well that can bring oil or gas to the surface. The water used in the process is either salt water or fresh water that contains soluble and insoluble contaminants, which may be dispersed or colloidally suspended. HaloSource is currently developing its HaloKlear technology to find affordable and effective ways to reuse and clean this water in an ecologically suitable manner.
Dredging
HaloKlear has been used with success in the treatment of dredged material. HaloKlear products allow dredged material to be dewatered in a way that prevents suspended soils, heavy metals and other pollutants from being reintroduced into the body of water. HaloKlear can perform under extreme sediment loads of 15 to 20 percent solids.
In a recent case study, HaloKlear, along with many other polymers, was used and tested by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Both total suspended solids and heavy metal removal were tested, and HaloKlear performed in the top of both categories. The low toxicity levels and the ability to field test for residual chitosan insures that safety guidelines are followed along with meeting performance requirements.
Mining and Tunneling
High-pressure water jets increase the cutting capacity and rate of production in mining and tunneling. The use of high-pressure water jets affords considerable cost savings through increased bit life, as well as additional benefits from the reduction of dust levels and methane ignition hazards. The practice of using high-pressure water jets commonly requires dewatering systems, which produce thousands of gallons of wastewater that must be treated before it is dispensed or reused.
HaloKlear has been used successfully in this application, meeting tight discharge requirements in the process. Our research and development team continues to work on finding ways to maximize the use of HaloKlear’s chitosan-based technology to remove sediment from this wastewater.
Agricultural
HaloSource has a patent on the use of limiting transpiration in plants. Always seeking to solve the world’s water-related issues, HaloSource is currently exploring how our technologies can help clarify irrigation water of unwanted pollutants and even reduce the water demand in agricultural crops.
